Assists in planning, organizing, directing and supervising assigned activities of the Engineering Department functions which are necessary in maintaining the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, utility systems and grounds of the hospital in an operative and safe working condition. Assists in maintaining performance improvement activities within the Engineering Department and participates in CQI activities. Organizes and maintains the Joint Commission standards pertaining to the Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Emergency Management.








Reports daily to the Controller regarding the physical and structural conditions of hospital facilities and the status of work in progress.

Monitors Plant Operations departmental personnel matters and makes recommendations, such as selection, training, promotion, discipline and termination. Supervises scheduling of Plant Operations department personnel. Directly Supervises the Manager of Environmental Services.

Participates in the development and applications of standards of quality and productivity for the Plant Operations Department. Supervises and directs Plant Operations Department personnel in the use of policies, procedures and standards of work performance for maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings and building systems.

Administers and supervises the maintenance program to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the entire physical plant. Monitors its’ application to assure maximum effectiveness and provides appropriate documentation of same.

Works closely with other departments and administration. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances indicate.

Schedules and supervises maintenance repair work, alterations, remodeling, and minor construction. Oversees installation and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems.

Develops and participates in the orientation of new employees and the continuing education of department employees in the repair and maintenance of all equipment. Instructs personnel regarding hazards and safety to ensure safe procedures and safe use of equipment.

Maintains stock levels of materials and parts within budgetary constraints.

Operates the Building Management System.

Responsible for maintaining repair and replacement records to keep within the projected budget. Provides input to the Controller of projected costs and budget requirements.

Manager of Plant Operations is on-call at all times.


Responsible for coordination of all Life Safety elements throughout the hospital, including fire and safety inspections and procedures. Incumbent serves as the designated Safety Officer for all CRH service locations. The Safety Officer is authorized by the Board of Managers and the CEO to direct and maintain programs and practices to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. As such the Safety Officer is authorized to intervene in any situation involving a concern for life safety and to provide for immediate correction. The Manager of Plant Operations oversees the implementation of the Joint Commission standards for the Environment of Care, Emergency Management, and Life Safety.

Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.





  • One (1) year certificate from college or technical school; or 2 to 3 (2-3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.   Advanced computer knowledge.  
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge of hospital’s management and utility systems management.
  • Knowledge of the Joint Commission Standards related to the Environment of Care.
